David Letterman: Another “Have You No Decency?” Moment
10 June 2009 | By LowellB in Lowell, Media, Politics, TN BlogThis is getting a lot of play in the blogosphere. David Letterman’s monologue included this joke about Sarah Palin, who attended a New York Yankees game with her 14 year-old daughter Willow:
Those who know me know I am only a middling fan of Governor Palin, but this is outrageous slime. I have a 12 year-old daughter myself, and so maybe that is affecting my thinking, but some things are simply beyond the pale and this is one of them.
Jim Treacher at Hot Air posted this video, and comments:
That’s right: A state governor went to a baseball game with her underage daughter, and a national talk show host made a joke about the girl being sexually assaulted by one of the players.
I realize I’m just an inbred backwoods moron who can’t abide by any criticism of Sarah Palin whatsoever, but is this really the precedent we want to set for our politicians and their families?
(Emphasis in original.) Glenn Reynolds adds, “[T]his is why all that ‘have you no decency?’ stuff from Democrats rings so hollow.”
I wonder if any of the usual news media “watchdogs” will urge Letterman to apologize? Does he even have that in him?
