On April 30, 1789, John Adams took charge in America’s first session of Congress. Taking his place as the first Vice President of the United States of America, Adams was also constitutionally appointed as President of the Senate. Each and every vote, every title, and every procedure was to be created, even imagined, by the stalwart men who took their seats as representatives. In words that one wishes today’s Congressional leaders would pause to reconsider, John Adams admonished the new body:

JOIN The Kitchen Cabinet…A National Voice For Conservative Women

November 30th, 2009 | By Sonja in Economy, Editorials, Politics, Sonja, Uncategorized | No Comments »

Form A Line at: www.thekitchencabinet.us During the bleakest times in the history of our country, women have stepped up to strengthen the will, the focus, and the kitchCabLogo_2-75x6_300dpi-copyability of our people. It is time to step up again.

The Kitchen Cabinet is being created by me and a handful of service-oriented women who work inside and outside of their homes. We are stepping forward to unite like-minded, conservative women, who do the work of the world every single day, but seldom have a voice in its direction.

Faith in American Technology

Every now and then I see news stories that remind me of what was once called “Yankee ingenuity.” Yankees are pretty rare these days outside that baseball stadium in the Bronx, but I do think humankind’s technological capacities are something we’re not thinking enough about.

For example, amid all the discussion about how to reduce our dependency on carbon-based fuels, stories like this one come out and remind me that we really could solve the problem if we made it more of a priority to do so.

Outraged Citizen

November 14th, 2009 | By Sonja in Economy, Editorials, Politics, Sonja | No Comments »

Some of the outrage expressed in this letter shared on the Glenn Beck show recently is over the top, but the heart of it summarizes the frustration, the fear, and the urgency that is welling up in all of us. Especially note her list of TWELVE wishes. Too close to the mark to ignore. Sonja

Glenn Beck

GLENN BECK: I got a letter from a woman in Arizona . She writes an open letter to our nation’s leadership:

“I am a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. Instead, we are burdened with Congressional Dukes and Duchesses who think they know better than the citizens they are supposed to represent.

There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you’re willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now.

You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would feel so horribly disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut-job am I? Well, these briefly are the views and issues for which I seek representation:

A Little NCAA Football: Utah vs. TCU

November 14th, 2009 | By LowellB in Lowell, TN Blog | No Comments »

We don’t do a of of sports blogging here, but it’s Saturday and there’s a big game today: The 4th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs vs. the 16th-ranked Utah Utes. (Who chooses the horned frog as a mascot, anyway?) TCU is a 20-point favorite but they are going up against a Utah program that has been very successful lately:

An elite program

As a Ute fan of the first order my hopes will be high but I’m trying to stay realistic. It should be fun to watch anyway. The game is on CBS College Sports at 4:30 p.m. Pacific time today. Here’s a short pregame write-up.
